Well, it's Monday night, and for those of us at RPGamer it means another editorials update. But for many folk across the country, it means something entirely different. They charge to their sofas, beer and chips poised at the ready, and wait for the magic time to begin on their TV. Some get there early for the pre-game show, and some get there even earlier for hours of pre-pre-game programming. Many will paint their faces in bizarre rituals or scream like madmen over the slightest change of the pixels on their screen. I speak of course of a Monday night tradition, that oh-so-televised football game with its trademark "Are you ready?" battlecry.
As you can no doubt tell from my writing, I know about as much about football as a polar bear knows about physics. That is to say, they are probably aware of some of the basic principles such as gravity via personal life experience, but couldn't tell a quark from a neutron if you asked. Unlike a polar bear, I won't try to eat you should you ask me about either football or physics, but you're not going to get much out of me either way. All the same it's a pretty common watering hole topic at my office, so I thought it would make a good theme for this week. It's also a good theme for gamers, as the question appplies to us in another matter. Soon, all three "next-gen" consoles will be released unto us. Are you "wii"-ly excited about the Wii? Have you hocked your mom's car to buy a PS3 yet? Are you ready for next-gen? I know I'm not. Mostly because I'm a very, very poor man. And I want a PS3. I saw White Knight's trailer the other day, and I think the carpet in my computer room is still wet from the puddle of drool. Alas, it's not to be for me, at least not for a long time. Ah well. But that takes us far away from this week's theme, which is Monday Night Football.
We have 4 eds charging down the infield this week, and I've got the play-by-play. Josh tackles an article on the PS3 with some crunching insights. That's gotta hurt! Jason runs the ball deep into non-gamer territory, discussing the comparison between games and real-life experience. Michael punts the PSP into the endzone to debate whether or not the handheld has any RPG power outside of ports. And JuMeSyn brings it on home for a touchdown, but who will compose the score for his victory anthem? He wonders if possibly a film score's producer might do a good job.
That's all for this week, RPGamers. See you next Monday!
