The Greatness of RPG Maker
by Nathan Ferry
"Sure, RPGM still does have its limits. (Inputting text still takes up a good chunk of creation time.) Some people think any RPG made from it is pure crap because of those limits. And it still is challenging making an awesome game. But I think those challenges are one of the reasons I and a few others are still using it (the rest are waiting for RPGM2). For the challenge, and for bragging rights. If you are able to create a good game on this thing, you've got every right to brag. But more so, I think that those still making games (and the newcomers that are still getting this game even today) are doing so in order to make their dream game. That's why I got it."
Abusing the Load
by TitoPaul
"Loading a saved
game after you have screwed up, either by fighting poorly, selling/buying the
wrong equipment, regretting a path you have chosen or whatever other decision
might cause remorse, allows the player the luxury of a safety net. This safety
net is not so much different than an infinite lives code, because it allows a
player to retry again and again without having to worry about the permanency of
decisions."
Can't Let Go? Well, It's Time To!
by Cless Aileron
"Let's face it. Namco's Tales series is not really popular outside Japan. Tales of Destiny did not really do well here in the U.S., selling only about 60,000 units, while Tales of Eternia did worse only selling 5/6 of what Tales of Destiny did (About 50,000). Not to mention, the fanbase at least in North America is not really big. With these facts, Namco really has to think twice before deciding to translate another Tales game. "

Editor's Comments
Welcome one and all to this week's editorials column. I apologize for the delayed update, I'll try not to let that happen again anytime soon. There are three completely original editorials just waiting to be read. Nathan Ferry fills us in on the joys of making your own RPGs, and TitoPaul gives his thoughts on unfairly using the re-load button. Finally, Cless Aileron explains why the Tales series isn't receiving the attention it deserves in North America and offers a solution.
Don't miss next week's update, it's going to be special. Happy writing!
