Hey everyone. I'm sure that you're just as surprised as I am that this update is going up on time. Judging by last week's lack of contributions, I thought that I might be waiting for editorials for a while. Oh how wrong I was. I received some excellent eds this week, which I'll mention below.
If last week was the news doldrums, then this week has been the news nuclear winter. It's not really surprising, considering the season, but it sure is boring. Hopefully you're all making good use of this downtime. I've been whiling away the time play Super Mario 64 (still an awesome game, 5 years later) and counting the seconds until Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back opens. This will be my last week hosting Editorials, and I must thank Mistrss Nightshadow for the opportunity. She's sorted out (well, to some extent) the more hectic aspects of her life and will return next week to entertain and enlighten you.
In fact, she sent me a little note for you guys:
Well, as Alex would have mentioned above, I'll be returning next week, after spending too much time on my feet (I think my legs are begging me to give them a break). Hopefully we'll get back into the swing of things...and hopefully I can get that debate idea off the ground just once (Although, for it to happen repeatedly wouldn't be a bad idea.) and we'll have more to see in the weeks to come. I'll finally be getting around to setting this thing up, so keep an eye out.
As well, for all of you running off to Otakon (in Baltimore), Raincrystal would like to meet any RPGamers going to the convention. Since you do have a picture (look at the biography) and she will be on staff, it shouldn't be hard to drop by. She will probably have Raincrystal on at least one of her nametags, and she'll look like Aeris with flattened-down bangs. Well, if you're there, go already and find her!
And I'll be taking the helm again next week, with life finally settling down. So things should be pretty much fine.
As for this weeks editorials; well, it's safe to assume what both Mike Lemmer and Michael Harnest have been doing with their time. Mike Lemmer first continues expounding his ideal game, and then chimes in on Square's role in the gaming industry. Michael Harnest begins this week by continuing his analysis of our genre, delving into the realm of player representation in games. In his second contribution, he discusses the impact that an entrenched brand-name can have on games. Next up is M, who discusses the merits of both films and games, and why we shouldn't be trying to compare them as equals, when they function so well as disparate media. And, rounding out this week's impressively girthed update, Cloudslash has taken the time to addresses the substance of villians, from a moral standpoint.
And with that, I thank you for your attention. There are some excellent eds this week that should spark something inside of you. Remember to bottle that spark, smoosh it into an ed and send it in, so that the rest of the world can be privy to your musings. Now, get reading...and writing.
