Make Story With Me
Raincrystal

SOMETIMES, QUALITY IS up to the gamers. See, I like fiction because it allows me to vicariously experience things that I normally don't experience because I'm me, and those things don't happen to me. I like old-school RPGs because they're extremely simple, don't reveal too much thought process or deep inner motivation, and allow me to fill in the gaps with my imagination. MORE >>>

What the Porcupine’s Dilemma has to tell us about Party Dynamics, followed by a lucid descent into madness
   by TitoPaul
We call them controllers, and when we hold them in our hands we understand a power of control we have felt before. Like the experienced musician, we can see our instruments without once needing to look down. And yet whatever experience can be taken from gaming, can also be taken for granted, and certainly can be taken away. The following is an exercise in defiance of those normal expectations, a proposition for taking away our collective experience points.

Of Art, Integrity, Sexuality... And Square Enix...
   by Bébio Amaro
"With the recent release of Final Fantasy X-2, it seems that RPGs may venture into shaky territory - the realm of sequels. Final Fantasy, Breath of Fire, Wild ARMs, Dragon Warrior, and several other series have continued by reimagining themselves with each installment, usually featuring an entirely new cast of characters (FF) or the same main characters, but with different stories and/or personalities (BoF)."

A New Meaning of Final Fantasy
   by Staci Marino
"What makes a Final Fantasy game worthy of being a part of the numerical series? Some people might say the graphics, which were top-of-the-line for whenever they were first created. Others might point out the engaging characters and the amazing storylines, or perhaps the beautiful music or the battle system. But I believe that there is an important aspect of the series that many people may overlook, something special that is part of the core of what Final Fantasy truly is..."

Editor's Comments

Welcome, everyone, to the latest editorials column. My apologies for the lack of update last week; I was out of town. We've got quite the update for your reading enjoyment today. Raincrystal, who once worked in this very department, has submitted a truly inspiring editorial that is dead on in the subject of role-playing, the reason we're all here. Thus, she has been awarded Featured Reader status for this week.

In addition to Raincrystal's piece, we have several editorials which are all and original interesting in their own way. TitoPaul has once again submitted a stylized, exciting editorial which makes a distinct point in the process, this time about party dynamics. Bébio Amaro has graced us with a long, studied essay into the psychology of gamers and their passions. And Staci Marino has written a very original editorial about one aspect of the Final Fantasy series that gives it life.

I'd just like to thank all of the above submitters for taking the time to help make this column even better. Before you head straight to the forums, I'd just like to give another shout out to those who haven't tried it yet, to give our Live Chat channel a look.
