Clichés - Good, Bad, or the Only Option
   by Gabriel Putnam
"Clichés are something akin to the bane of a satisfying game experience. They suck the life from our stories and leave us tired and dead through the title screen onward. In polar opposite to the prior arguments, what’s the point in playing a game where you know what’s going to happen, who’s going to live, who’s going to die, and what shape the world’s going to be in when its all said and done? There’s no mystery to the experience and without this ingredient, the entire concoction loses its magic."

Luca Blight: The Greatest Villain of All
   by Bobby Skelton
"When it comes to the great villains in video game history, the evil and incredibly powerful antagonist from Suikoden 2, Luca Blight, is rarely discussed, if ever. But there are many traits that I believe should put Suikoden II's swansong villain to the top of the list, which I hope you will read and find out."

Editor's Comments

Welcome to the first editorials update for the third quarter of 2003. The column has made it through four months now, and we've seen it grow exponentially since. Thanks to all those who have submitted editorials, it's you that make this section what it is.

As you can see, we've only got two articles this week, probably because summer is just kicking off, and everyone's playing Warcraft III: the Frozen Throne rather than writing editorials :) Regardless, both submissions are worth a read: Gabriel Putnam returns with an article about Clichés, and Bobby Skelton explains why Suikoden II's villain is so evil.

Everyone keep writing in, we need all the material we can get! See you all next week.

If you know the basics of HTML and feel confident using our templates, then the best way to ensure that your article is posted is to use them. This makes my job a lot easier, and it gets the column up faster. If you don't know anything about HTML, don't worry about it; sending it in the body of your email or as an attached text file works fine.
