I Didn't Buy Oatmeal this Week July, 1 2008
Past Updates: 06.24.08 | 06.17.08 | 06.10.08

Defining Balance for Fun and Profit Greg Campbell

Editorial Excerpt: "In game terms, what, exactly is balance? Typically, a game's quality depends largely on its 'fun factor,' or balance. Opinions may differ, but mine is being able to use one's abilities in a significant way to achieve desired goals."

Want Some Puyo? Mike "JuSeMyn" Moehnke

Editorial Excerpt: "I cannot claim to be a keeper of massive lore regarding puzzle games. Aside from infrequent Tetris games over the years I have little experience with the genre. Yet there is a large mixing of the puzzle and the RPG world, though it barely made any headway in English."

From the Editor's Desk

Still reeling from last week's oatmeal assault, I have taken to eating Pillsbury Toaster Strudels. That should show the Quaker guy. On the gaming front I'm still messing around with MGS4 but have discovered that one can get a lot of portable gaming done during the substantial cutscenes. Yes, I know how dorky playing two games at a time is, but I don't care, I've actually been getting a lot of work done on my substantial DS backlog. Well, my Advance game backlog to be precise. I've been toiling my way through Fire Emblem and have made a lot of headway. Hopefully I can polish off a few games before FFIV DS comes out in a few weeks and ties me up some more.

Ed-wise, we have actually had a good number of submissions this week! "If you whine, they shall come!" Seriously though, it's really appreciated and I urge everyone to keep sending them in. Mr. Greg Campbell writes in with a whopper of an opinion concerning balance in RPGs. As well, JuSeMyn discusses the Puyo games, their origins, and merits. Hopefully we'll see such entusiasm next week! HINT! HINT! HINT!
