The Nostalgia Factor, Part Three: Finding the Magic
by Erica Kudisch
"If we go by the standard suggested by the earlier editorials in this series, and Final Fantasy VII is the cutoff between the schools, Suikoden earns the designation "late old-school" and Xenogears "early new guard". It is not small wonder, then, that I think of them as different artistic endeavors, as opposed to wildly deviant interpretations of the same medium."

A big thanks to Erica Kudisch, the sole submitter of new material this week. Erica's editorial is a very nice follow-up / rebuttal to the last couple of editorials on the subject of nostalgia. It is well worth a read. And while we're on the subject of nostalgia, I only saw it fitting to use CanadianGhaleon's classic editorial on said subject for this week's update.
I love to see the level of interaction that has developed within this column through the boards. Every week, editorials are fleshed out even further by intelligent message board posts and thought-out debates sometimes rage on in a collection of interesting threads. Another level of interaction along those same veins, however, has been neglected as of late. I'm referring to our very own chat channel devoted to none other than this very column. Live chat offers a whole new approach to debate, so hey, if you like debating on the forums, you may just want to consider using this service. Check out our Live Chat FAQ to learn how to easy it is to get started. (It's completely free!).
Over an out.
