  Editorials for June 22nd, 2001
  Re-establishing Control... Standby.

Well, after last week's mayhem I'm back... um, well sort of. Well, I know that Mikel Tidwell will be heading out for two weeks on a vacation, as he said in the update you can read here. So what's that to do with me?

You would probably know that he's the boss of RPGamer, and also that he does other various tasks, one of them being RPGamer's Theme Central section. Since he does deserve a break, we've all decided to pick up some part of his workload so he doesn't have anything to worry about while he's relaxing on his vacation. If you haven't guessed already I'll be that someone who will be temporarily minding Mikel's section as part of the pickup. So if you have wallpaper, winamp skins, icons, or many other things to grace desktops that you have made you'd like to see up, send it to themes@rpgamer.com and I'll be updating it next week. (Yes, I will update next week, believe it or not.)

This doesn't mean however that I'll be absent from Editorials however. It WILL, however, mean that I'd probably be redecorating my desktop among other items a lot more, and I might not be as attentive as I would normally be.

Anyway, you might have noticed a few interesting things within the RPG world as of late. Of course the Final Fantasy movie is due out in about two weeks, and there's several other games which would be coming out around then as well. There was also quite some controversy from Blizzard this week concerning its latest patch to Diablo 2, which apparently changed a lot of the game mechanics and has been imposed on all online Diablo 2 players who use the battle.net servers. There has been a lot of questions over the patch itself (which changes the mechanics to match the upcoming expansion Lord of Destruction), but it also raises questions about the PC gaming industry generally, concerning the ethics of such a move. It is an interesting development, and I'd definitely like to hear the opinions of just what this patch could mean for future patches.

As for this week's editorials? Well, it seems that the classic debate concerning the schools is still going on, and there has been some responses concerning the recent fanfic comments, an interesting comment concerning the presentation of editorials, and various comments for and against the Final Fantasy series. There's quite a few, so enjoy.

Well, what else can I say? I'll be looking forward to both theme and editorials submissions for next week. Have fun reading and writing as well as creating, and I'll catch you around next week, probably with a lot more in tow. Just remember to keep editorials and themes sent to different addresses.

PS: The Editorials template has been updated again, and I encourage you all to grab a copy. There are two versions: A fully commented one if you need a little help with the template, and one which was designed for those who are familiar with it without detailed comments.
