How Nintendo Handles Plotlines
Carmine M. Red
THIS IS WHY we won't see Nintendo creating drastically Final Fantasy-esque plotlines or extensively dramatizing it's next Zelda game. The way Aonuma approaches story is that plot isn't something that explains the game's existence in and of itself, but instead is so woven into the gameplay experience that to separate it would be to lose something in the process.

On the importance of the RPGamer
by TitoPaul
"I am of the opinion that if you attract the RPG gamer, you have won the
generation. Each system that has been dominant in its era (from NES to SNES to
PS up to PS2) has been supported by a strong lineup of RPGs... The
failure of the Nintendo 64 was largely due to its reliance on Zelda as its only
quasi-rpgish game... Similarly the Sega Saturn and later the Dreamcast were also
barren, cruel lands for an RPG gamer."
Why I Won’t Play Online RPGs
by Paul Goshi
"My first online RPG was Ultima Online. It was also my last... I have no plans to purchase Final Fantasy XI (Online), or any other upcoming online RPG. Unlike single player RPGs, where one bad installment may have no bearing on how good or bad the next will be, online RPGs share a general set of traits that I find undesirable."

Editor's Comments
All I can say is that I'm very impressed by this week's submissions; today's update contains some of the more original and well-crafted ideas that this section has seen in a while. First of all, past-submitter Carmine M. Red has submitted a studied look at the inner workings of Nintendo's design department, a discussion so well-said, that it deserves Featured Reader status! Equally original and interesting is the editorial by frequent-submitter TitoPaul on how RPGs intimately affect the console-wars. Last but not least, past-submitter Paul Goshi has written a well thought-out response to last week's classic editorial.
A big thanks to this week's writers. I hope you enjoyed today's update as much as I did.
