FEATURED READER EDITORIAL
Behind The Mastermind
by Demovere Xeno
ULTIMECIA WAS WAITING for someone. That thought probably rang through her head much louder than anything else. She knew that one day, the person she was waiting for would appear in that orphanage - not to take her back, but to kill her. She also knew that SeeD would eventually come to try and stop her before she could meet him - her love - once again. That’s why she hated SeeD with a passion… Yes, it’s all clear now, isn't it? Rinoa IS Ultimecia.

On Fan Service, Creativity, and Money in the Game Industry
by Gabriel Putnam
"With the development of such useful tools as the internet and worldwide sales charts, which we almost take for granted these days, information and response to games is available for developers before a game is even released. Polls can be taken on massive scales to determine features… All of this has resulted in a problem which might have almost seemed foreign just a few short years ago."
Final Fantasy X: Overly Zealous?
by The Pezman
"I played through the game when it first came out, a
bit more than a year ago. I, like everyone else, was
enthralled with the voices, the high-framerate FMVs,
and out-of-this-world plot. The simplifications of
the elements and battle system were a warm welcome.
And then I beat Yunalesca…"
Not by The Square On My Chinny Chin Chin
by Andrew Spaulding (cleverbeans)
"Let’s say that you are at a doctor’s office. You’re in the lobby perusing the magazine racks so you can look at the cheap smut in seventeen magazine ads. You reach for one hastily because you want to sit down again but, lo and behold, you’ve accidentally grabbed “the three little pigs” from the kids book rack. It’s too late; you’ve sat down in the nice cushy comfy chair that everyone in the office was eyeing."
Double Standard Still a Two-Way Street
by Chris Bailey
"There's a myth among some people - mostly men -
who want to believe that because women have been legally given the same rights
as men they are now "equal" to men. These people don't consider their own
attitudes toward the other sex as part of that equality, and this is truly
unfortunate."

How to Write Reviews for RPGamer
by Michael Beckett
"And now 10. Good lord, the 10s. RPGamer is not IGN. It isn’t RPGfan, and it sure as hell isn’t GameFAQs, or any other site where a 10 is the operational equivalent of a 5. If you give out a 10, you’d better be damn sure you know what you’re saying, because a 10 means you can’t find a single flaw anywhere in that aspect of the game’s design…"
Rebuttal to Max Murphy’s The JENOVA Reunion
by By Logan Rebholz (OmegaZEROCustom)
"After reading Max Murphy’s The JENOVA Reunion, I couldn’t help but write up a response about some things flawed in Max’s approach to the subject of JENOVA… As Max stated at the end of his piece, these are only his interpretations, but as some of them are based on facts stated in the game, I feel they should be pointed out."

Editor's Comments
I'd like to present you with our second Featured Reader Award. This week's Featured Reader makes several bold claims about Final Fantasy VIII's difficult-to-understand plot, and best of all, he backs them up with evidence from the game. Congratulations to Demovere Xeno. While he did a great job on his article, all of this week's submissions are of equal worth to our column, and you won't want to skip reading any of them.
We've got some thought-provoking editorials for your reading enjoyment. News Staff member Gabriel Putnam presents us with a tough issue in the Interactive Entertainment Industry, and The Pezman tells of his experience with Final Fantasy X. Andrew Spaulding discusses his thoughts on recent Final Fantasy games, and Michael Beckett gives a detailed and accurate description of the review-writing process for RPGamer's Points of View section. You should also check out Logan Rebholz and Chris Bailey's rebuttals from last week's column.
I couldn't hope for a better response to the column, and I am impressed by the incredibly well thought-out submissions we've been receiving since day one. Everyone keep up the great work, and don't feel afraid to submit your thoughts.

“It is no sin to attempt and fail. The only sin is not to make the attempt.”
-Suellen Fried
While studying a game in-depth, pondering its themes for hours, and writing a long essay is a wonderful way to come up with an editorial, don't feel like you're required to do this in order to write a good article. Any submission that can back itself up within 4-6 paragraphs with a quick, but detailed commentary on a game or the RPG industry is enough to prove your point. Then again, you're more than welcome to submit lengthy discussions, if that's your style.
