Valley of the Dying Stars
by Xavier Brase
"At the most recent Game Developers Conference (GDC), a discussion erupted regarding the future of the gaming industry. Originally starting on a weblog by Greg Costik, Warren Spector (of Deus Ex and System Shock fame) quickly joined in, defending the stance he had adopted at the GDC. One claims the industry is a practice in futility, he other says it's a practice in engineering. Yet, between the two assertions of Costik and Spector lies the most possible (and the most enjoyable) line of reality."
That Sequel Sucked!
by Mondryn
"'Man, Final Fantasy VIII sucked! It was nothing like VII! What a rip-off!' How often have we heard this? Often, sequels are compared to their predecessors, and, unfortunately, they are found lacking. Every time I hear someone complain that a game wasn't as good as another, I can't help but wonder, 'Why don't you just play the game for its own sake, instead of comparing it to something else?'"
Challenging the MMORPG Premise
by Wisdom
"Certain comments were made concerning Massively Multiplayer Online RPGs that I feel need to be addressed. I do not label this a rebuttal because that would require me to structure my argument against another's, and while I do not agree with all of the opinions expressed on the matter, the aforementioned opinions are missing the point entirely."
The Difference Between Cloud and Squall
by Lunar Phoenix
"In both Final Fantasy 7 and Final Fantasy 8 the lead male characters are presented in a similar light. That of the brooding withdrawn young man who has sheltered his heart from pain by turning it to stone, who later finds through the determination of a young woman the strength to open up."

Editor's Comments
Welcome back to Editorials. I am Cortney Stone, a newsie here at RPGamer since October of last year. I've also made appearances in both Fanart and Q&A with Googleshng.
This week, four of our readers have contributed editorials for you to peruse at your leisure. I'm delighted to see that our readers are getting into the swing of things by sending in contributions to this newly resurrected section. I hope that even more of our readers will write in and share their thoughts on RPGs.
Joseph Witham will be hosting once again next update, so be sure to send your opinions his way. Thanks for reading, and keep writing!

"One by one objects are defined--
It quickens: clarity, outline of leaf"
-William Carlos Williams
When submitting an editorial, it is important for you to proofread your work for grammar, punctuation, spelling, and clarity. Have a couple of friends read it over, or run it through software that checks for errors. You can also catch many errors in your work by reading it backwards, word by word, as reading forwards causes you to sometimes skim over your own errors. As for clarity, make sure that your ideas flow from one to another. Often we tend to go on rants or "chase rabbits" in our work, and it's important that we remain focused. You want the reader to understand exactly what you are saying.
