Allow Me to Bring in the Clowns
   by Czar
"When I read "Dragon Slave! Make Me Laugh, Damn It!" the other day, I had the distinct feeling that I wouldn't be the only one to have a reaction best summed as: "Either you're forgetting your RPG history, or you really missed out on some classics." I'm always happy to point a fellow Slayers fan in the right direction, and while comedy is admittedly an under-represented genre in gaming, it's not altogether absent--not even in the realm of RPGs."

"When you look at a brand new Playstation 2 game, all you can do is say “WOW” because of how impressive it is. But is it really worth it? Is it worth the extra 5 minutes of your time to sit there and watch something that use to take a little less the 30 seconds?"

Philosophy 101
   by Andrew Long
"It never ceases to amaze me what game developers will do in the name of legitimizing their product. In the most superficial sense, this translates into bigger, faster, shinier, and louder. Thus, technology progresses in an effort to make things seem constantly better. On a somewhat deeper level, there is character development."

Editor's Comments

One year ago, RPGamer's news department set out to revive one of the site's best assets, its Editorials Column. I'm proud to say, almost exactly one year later, that that revival was a huge success. Of course, it's all thanks to you, the readers and writers, that we have enjoyed such success. A big thanks to everyone for the hundreds of articles that have been produced since last March. Here's to another year of non-stop, weekly updates filled with quality editorials!

This week Czar treats us with a response to one of last week's articles about comedy in RPGs, and Henry Shraifer shares his opinion on graphically-enhanced cut-scenes and their role in games. Thanks to these writers for their submissions. We also take a look back into 2001 with an article by the one, the only, Andrew Long about philosophy in games.
