Editor's Comments: Tom Fay returns this week to discuss the settings of RPGs. Though a lot of sci-fi has creeped into our games lately, the medieval setting still seems to be the defining factor of an RPG.

Editor's Comments: There was a time when 2D graphics was the norm. Now you only get the occasional few among all of the 3D games. Matt returns to discuss why he prefers games that are only two dimensional.

Editor's Comments: Nick Colucci also returns this week, taking a look at the development of towns and cities in games. From cookie cutter towns to actual communities, there is a lot of variation in what we have seen over the last couple of years.

Editor's Comments: When looking at the symptoms of drug addiction, you are bound to notice a few parallels into your MMO gaming habits. Mac returns to put MMO addiction into perspective and to point out just how much of a problem it can become.

Editor's Words

It's been awhile...

I'm back after disappearing for two weeks. I hope you didn't get too used to Josh and his evil plans to take over the site one column at a time. I guess I haven't beaten the squee out of him yet either.

This week we have Tom Fay returning to explore the importance of medieval settings in RPGs. Also returning this week is Nick Colucci with an editorial discussing the layout of towns in RPGs, from cookie-cutter simplistic towns to extensive communities that give the impression of greatness. Matt joins us to analyze the different dimensions of games and why he prefers 2D. Finally, Mac gives us a look at just how much MMO addiction is like any other addiction in hopes of opening gamers' eyes to just how much of a problem it can become.

Eds Hour is returning in April! The first session is planned for Saturday, April 22 at 6 PM PST in #edscorner. That will be one week after I return from another short vacation. Feel free to join us before then to discuss topic ideas or work on a Gamer-Countergamer editorial.
