Conservative Attitudes and Final Fantasy
   by Paul Goshi
"Given, the RPG genre's roots in swords and dragons, save the princess and all that lent themselves well to being fairly apolitical, but now that games have thankfully been able to move into more complex storylines due to improved technology, we have been seeing games which more closely reflect modern social and political issues. Perhaps the best example of this, and certainly the most mainstream popular, is the Final Fantasy series."

Is Ignorance Really Bliss?
   by Andy B
"The notion that a binding tie lies within the Final Fantasy series is indeed impressively deduced from the existence of the Crystal, Jenova and the birth of the Ancients. Impressive but somewhat disturbing upon given thought to. As far as the Saga of Final Fantasy game is concerned it has always been the fact that it is void of any crucial connection from one game to the next that I feel has made each game the individual piece of art that they are."

Not Worse, Just Different
   by Nicholas Ferriola
"While there are certain things I can certainly agree with Justin Cronin on, the vast majority of his editorial sounded like yet another fan of “The good old Days” trying to say that things have only gone downhill. The evidence he uses, while present is very selective, and hardly indicative of an entire genre."

The Search for Perfection
   by S. Netzach
"Yes, some games seem to be all flash and no real substance. Some may appear shallow, unappealing, and boring. However, I hesitate to name the games that the author of "The Fall of Modern RPGs" named as examples. Here is why..."

Editor's Comments

Welcome to this week's editorials column. I'd like to start by extending a huge thank you to all who submitted articles this week. I received more submissions over the past seven days than I did in the entire months of December and January combined. Since we have a posting cap of 4 editorials per week, those articles which weren't published this week will likely appear in either next week's column or the preceding update. Things are really starting to kick off again; thanks everyone!

I'm also extremely glad that people are actually starting to write rebuttals. There are 3 responses to last week's articles! Thanks to Andy B, Nicholas Ferriola, and S. Netzach for rebutting in the form of an editorial. There's also an original piece by Paul Goshi about the thematic changes that have taken place in the Final Fantasy series since its inception.

Thanks for reading, and look forward to more brand new submissions next week.
