The Virtues of Diversity, and why the RPG Genre Lacks Them
by The Master Chief
"One of the more annoying aspects of the RPG fan base is the snobbish puritanism of the lot of them... It seems that every time some game attempts to put up a little spice in the RPG genre, both the game and it's developers end up taking unbelievable amounts of flak from the supposed die-hard RPG fans who see the attempt at innovation as an affront to everything that the RPG genre stands for."

Rebuttal to "The Sins of Cross-Pollination"
by Phillip Meilleur (Freonce)
"I think the idea of a RPG with a fighting engine battle system is exciting to me. I’ve played many fighting games (SC2 being the current favourite) and have often asked my cat why the developers even bothered to shove a plot in there. The concept of a fighting game and RPG as one…..my heart quickens when I begin to think of the possibilities."

Cheese? The Works? Plain Bagel, Please
by Crystile (hlhsquallsion)
"All I want is a simple game that can capture me with its ease of use. I don't want a game where I must devote countless hours just to level up characters. I don't want a game where I'm drowning in dynamic cutscene after cutscene. I don't want a game where I'm given so many ways of creating my characters that I end up using only a few, leaving other ways to waste."

Editor's Comments
Welcome once again to RPGamer's editorials column. The rush of quality editorials continues to flow our way with another week full of articles. Coincidentally, all three of the articles seem to share a similar theme, probably thanks to last week's editorial by Carmine Red.
Both The Master Chief and Phillip Meilleur respond to the aforementioned article, although each author takes an entirely different path in their responses. Crystile has also provided us with an editorial about simplifying a genre which is becoming more complex year by year.
I'd like to extend a big THANK YOU to Cortney Stone for all the help she has provided with this column. Not only has she helped diligently with the month-to-month maintenance of the section, but she has also contributed several timeless articles to our archives. As she moves on to higher ranks within the RPGamer staff structure, she'll also be leaving editorials entirely in my hands. That's not to say that we won't receive the occasional editorial from her!
