Burn In My Light February 6, 2006

Editor's Comments: The wait for a Japanese game to see North American shores is a long one, indeed. However, PAL region gamers have to wait quite a bit longer, fingers crossed that the game will even make it to them. Tom Fay joins us with his woes as a PAL gamer.

Editor's Comments: Daniel returns this week to explain how MMORPGs are like interactive chat rooms. Can socializing in an MMORPG help you socialize outside of the games? Can they teach you anything about teamwork? Or are they only meant for fun and nothing else?

Editor's Comments: Remembering to save is hard enough when save points are not present every other screen. Getting distracted by spending some of my hard earned cash after a long quest didn't help much either. See how Dragon Quest VIII was almost lost to me forever.

Editor's Comments: Square got it right when they released Final Fantasy VII upon the masses and changed RPGs to what we know them as today. Matt discusses the success of this game as well as what Square, now Square-Enix, has done in attempt to reach a similar success.

Editor's Words

I wonder where the weekend went...

Remember my New Year's Resolutions editorial? I've managed to start knocking a couple things off that list in the last week or so. I started at my new job on Thursday, and I can already predict that it is going to be a fun job. How many people can say they have fun at work? Also, I've managed to set aside time every weekend for gaming, though I don't get to it as much as I'd like to. Dragon Quest VIII has been put on the back burner for now. Soon I'll have money to start hunting down some of those games I wanted, which will be nice. That means I have to find more time for gaming though. Hmm...

Enough of my rambling, though. This week we have Tom Fay joining us with a story about PAL gamers. Think the wait for a game to reach North America is too long? Just imagine what Europe and Australia has to go through. We also have an editorial from our own Daniel Hill, discussing the social aspects of MMORPGs. Matt returns with an analysis on Square-Enix, discussing the financial success of Final Fantasy VII and how Square may have set the bar too high for even them. Finally, I join in with a lesson I learned while playing Dragon Quest VIII about saving more often.

Anyway, enjoy the eds. I will leave you with an attack of cuteness!
