It's a Wide World Sam 'Nyx' Marchello

Editorial Excerpt:

"Sometimes, I wish I were a fan of Western RPGs. Why? Because I wish I was able to get into the idea of vast worlds and being able to alter stories based on my decisions. Playing a Western RPG like Oblivion or Fable seems reminiscent of those "Choose Your Own Adventure Novels", and yet I find the moment I pick up a Western RPG, I easily put it down."

2009: My Expectations and Dreams Michael 'Macstorm' Cunningham

Editorial Excerpt:

"I have lofty expectations for 2009. This first quarter is more jam packed than anything I've seen in the past few years. At the same time, there's not a flood of content for the rest of the year that's been announced yet. Japan still has a hold on a lot of what I'm looking forward to, so I might have to keep my expectations in check. Localization has gotten a lot better though, so we're getting stuff over here in North America that we'd have never expected to see just a few short years ago."

From the Editor's Desk

Well, this editor really hasn't done much since the previous column. I went to that staff party, and was the only girl there not wearing a dress. Mission accomplished! Considering there was a snow storm Saturday night, I was absolutely amazed by the amount of women who came in dresses. I was wearing pants and I was freezing my butt off while walking over to where the event was being held!

Sadly, I did not game very much this week. I barely touched Persona 3: FES or Rune Factory 2. On the other hand, I picked up Final Fantasy IV DS again and I am finally underground, although the back-to-back boss fight with the marionettes and then Golbez has been irritating. I've only attempted it twice, but I think I need to look at my levels and see if I need to grind a bit. Also, a friend of mine lent me her copy of Professor Layton and the Curious Village, which has been a lot of fun so far.

On the editorial front, we've got an ed from Michael 'Macstorm' Cunningham, and one from myself. Macstorm discusses his expectations for the 2009 RPG line up, sharing some of his thoughts, and even dreams about what he'd like to see in the future. My editorial, however, focuses on my desire to get over my issues with Western RPGs. I'm really biased about the things I like, and when it comes to Western RPGs, I have a hard time finding a game that I want to invest the time in. Feel free to throw me recommendations in the forum! Anywho, this wraps up this week's column! See you all next week!
