See? Squaresoft does listen!

by Squall Fong Wong

By now, many RPGamers have already heard about the PSX remake of Chrono Trigger. And if you've heard that much, you also know that the remake will not be released in the U.S.

Why wouldn't they release such a wonderful game in the U.S.? Chrono Trigger was an absolute classic! But guess what: So were Final Fantasy 5 and 6.

When the Final Fantasy Anthology was released, did people jump for joy about finally being able to play FF5 on an actualy console instead of a buggy emulator, or sit in front of either of the two games for hours, reliving the classics that they remember from when they were younger? No! Instead, it recieved harsh criticism for slow loading times and because the official names in the remake of FF5 were different than the names in the ROM! Square tried to make-up for the loading times by adding amazing FMV sequences and many more hidden features, but that didn't please most of the people who played it.

So, why would the people at Square waste their time and money re-releasing what they thought was a classic just to be verbally attacked again?

Squaresoft does listen. They listened to the overflow of complaints and lack of compliments over the Final Fantasy Anthology. For a company that enjoys making games as much as Square, it's too frustrating of an ordeal to go through, and certainly not one you'll want to go through again.

My guess is all of you who criticized the Anthology to death also killed any chance of getting Seiken Densetsu 3 translated to English.

This may be Squaresoft's warning, telling us that if we are that unhappy with their games while their Japanese customers couldn't be happier, then they'll just go back to releasing only one game stateside a year, if we're lucky. Just like old time, huh?
