There are times, of course, when the darkness ahead seems infinite and overwhelming. Many of us have relied on a beacon to give us an example, a guide, a light that shows the path to be traveled. There will come a time though where there is no light, no evident marker to guide us on our way. We know the light is there, yet it is still obscured by the darkness that we are forced to find it where it seems to be absent. There is no light in every direction, the blackness seems eternal everywhere you look. At this time, however, men have known that darkness isn't the absence of light, but only because you are still too far from it to see it clearly. You need to march on despite the confusion, and eventually the light comes into view.
You have placed your hope on a Star to once again point you on the right direction, but it will come to pass that you cannot always rely on it. A dark patch will come ahead, so close to the end of your travels, but you are already so close. Only this darkness lies ahead. Travel far enough and you will eventually see perhaps the closest body of light to the planet the humans will ever see. From the horizon the Moon begins to rise, the closest source of light to the earth.
If there is one object in the heavens that anyone would recognize, it would be the Moon. Look into the dark night sky and one of its forms will always be there, sharing the light it reflects off the sun to humans during the wee hours of the day. People of the past that didn't understand what it was gave it many names, from holy stars or celestial maidens. One thing is for certain though, during the times that even the stars may not shine, the moon would always be in full view.
The Moon shines for the Fool after the Stars have shown him the way again. He may know which direction to take now, but the light is not yet enough, he is still confused. The Moon shines some more light, more than what the stars confer, to light the final path he must travel over. Things still seem bleak and weary in front of him, but things are starting to get clearer now. The hope he possesses gains more strength as he travels onward. The confusion in his heart begins to clear.
The warning sirens in Midgard ring all over the city. The Mako Canon begins to recharge after the first blast finally destroys the barrier to the Northern Crater. The mad scientist Hojo prepares to fire again knowing the blast will destroy the city. He doesn't care, as the hero and his team arrives to confront him. He doesn't care, because he only cares about one thing: his son, sitting inside that crater, gathering the energy needed to be reborn as the god of the planet when Meteor hits. Here they learn the truth as to who the white-haired swordsman is. He is more than a Jenova experiment, as they learn the source of his madness and his origins. Hojo made him into what he is. One can say Hojo is a primary cause of the planet's impending doom. Here it becomes all clear to the hero and his friends. Hojo must be defeated to save Midgard and prevent the energy flow to their enemy, before they assault the crater themselves.
The capital of Highland is within their grasp. The unease in the hero's mind slowly clears as the final bastion of this forsaken war lies on the horizon ready for the taking. It would not go down easily, however, as the finest remaining soldiers of the kingdom lie between them and absolute victory. Le'Rennoiulle will not be taken without a fight, and he knows this final battle will be the bloodiest one of the entire. Will it end it all? He recalls Luca Blight's words that even if the kingdom falls, its citizens will scream for blood and vengeance. Will conquering the city final bring peace to a land that has been in war for the last decade? He knows that the real answers can only be found inside the walls of the castle, when Highland's banner is taken down and the liberation army's is raised. He cannot back down now that they've made it this far. The final battle is only just beginning.
The Moon slowly, but surely becomes a light in the darkness for the Fool, who is now nearing the end of his travels. The Moon will not say whether it is a good end or a bad end, but only clear his doubts and calm his mind of the things to come. Only the Fool can write his own story, and only he can define if it all ends well. He has the power to do so if he can wield it at the right place at the right time. The Moon can only straighten his thoughts on his actions.
But at some point, even the Moon must give way to the Sun. If the Fool can make it there.
The Star is there, his hope is there. The shining twinkle of eternity that will never fade, no matter when.
