America's Most Wanted

STAFF EDITORIALIST

Patience is something that I, like many others, are short on these days, so when I see all of these exciting games coming out in Japan, I just can't wait to play them. Unfortunately, most US gamers do have to wait. Most of the time for those special games, the wait is well worth it. For now, we will focus on three games that were released in Japan during 2006 that have yet to grace the shores of North America. This is by no means an all encompassing list. It's just a small sample of America's Most Wanted.

Pokémon Pearl/Diamond

This should not really shock anyone. Young or old, the Pokémon video games have been entertaining RPGamers for quite some time now. The DS dual lineup of Pearl and Diamond will bring the Nintendo WiFi Connection into the mix for the first time along with connectivity to many other upcoming and prior Pokémon titles. With the outstanding success of these games in Japan and a release date of April 22, 2007 for the US, Pearl and Diamond are high up on many RPGamer's most wanted list.

Blue Dragon

Blue Dragon is Hironobu Sakaguchi's first release under the umbrella of his new development studio, Mistwalker. Final Fantasy creator Sakaguchi is looking to capture a brand new audience with his latest Xbox 360 RPG. Sakaguchi teamed up with Dragon Quest artist, Akira Toriyama, and famed composer Nobuo Uematsu, to create Blue Dragon and they hope to pave the way for a new line of 360 RPGs. Upon its December release in Japan, Blue Dragon quickly become the country's fastest selling Xbox 360 game with over 80,00 copies within its first four days. Currently, Blue Dragon has an estimated US release date of June, but hopefully an official announcement will be made soon. With many US 360 owners hungry for RPGs and many RPGamers looking for a reason to buy a 360, Blue Dragon will continue to be watched very closely over the next few months.

Mother 3

Few other RPGs seem to have a cult following like that of EarthBound or more specifically the Mother series. Mother 3 saw an April 2006 release in Japan, but with no hopeful comments about a possible English release, US RPGamers are currently left merely with idle wishes. With Nintendo's handheld torch being passed off to the DS, maybe gamers can redirect their wishing to possibly getting a DS port of Mother 3 or maybe all three Mother titles. Things do look bleak at this time, however only time will tell if North American gamers will ever get to play an official version of the quirky and comical Mother 3. Until that time, Mother 3 will continue to be one of the sadder stories of America's Most Wanted.
