Weapon of Choice

"Listen to the sound of our voice. Check me out, I'm the weapon of choice"

Yeah, it's a bit off. We've seen lots of interesting characters cross the stage in the time of RPGs. Towering fighters, angsty teenagers, shapely mages, and beast men all played their roles and continue to play them. We've got our pets. We've got our gigantic summons. We've even got our robot army to battle ninja hackers across time.

What we don't have a good deal of, though, is witty weaponry. Huh? You say? Weapons are for hitting things. Where's the wit? Heck, there's dozens of awesome weapon designs being plotted every year.

The Star Dragon Sword dissents! "You could say he's my servant." He always was a snippy pompous fellow. You had to whip him pretty darn good to convince him you wanted his help. Couldn't just ask, you had to beg. Then you had to smack him around a bit to assuage him that you really were working for it. All of this for a blade that likes to rant and belittle.

Too bad more swords aren't like that. Sure, it'd get old if it was overused, but the few developers who've taken the plunge in that direction have generally made some pretty nifty characters. Virtually half the cast of Tales of Destiny were the swords, chatty personalities that'd join in the jibber-jabber alongside skewering enemies.

It'd be nice to see some more swords with wit. Take the unreality of the sword bickering over tea while skewering bloodthirsty monsters into play some more. The weapons that stand out as a bit more than just a discardable tool can provide a genuinely nice touch.
