Congratulations, you’ve just beaten the current RPG you happened to be immersed in. So as you sit back, relax, and enjoy the ending movie you think to yourself, “What the heck should I play next?” This is a question that I’m sure runs through the minds of all RPGamers through the course of their gaming lives.
Example, I am now currently involved in what seems like the eleventy billionth game of FFVII I’ve played since I purchased it. And through the course of the game I found myself getting increasingly disgruntled at the prospect the in a few hours this game will end again, and with the closing of this game I will once again be thrust back into the real world. A world without Magic, Adventure, Airships, Aliens, and everything that comes with the wondrous world of RPGs.
It is this attitude, this infatuation with the genre that I love that navigates me through this winding path back to the game every time. Regardless of how many times I’ve played, the levels I’ve achieved, the different party combinations, the alternative magic allocations, and the amount of money I earned.
Maybe, just maybe, it’s the awesome feeling of power that a gamer gets when he/she is locked in a world where they are conceivably all-powerful. You journey around the world defeating anything and everything that gets in your way, thus putting you and your party above all others.
Whatever the contributing factors to a gamer turning on their favorite RPG again for another go round are, one thing is certain, in the game, It’s good to be the king.
