by Randy Weeks Original Editorial: Computers vs. Consoles At first I found myself reading a pretty good article. Which is better? Console or computer? Immediately I knew to say I loved my consoles, although I have played a fair amount of both, and I know neither is better then the other. It would be like comparing a piece of cake to say a piece of pie, they both provide something of value but neither can be classified as better because it depends on the person who eats it to decide which he likes more. I will be explaining a few flaws I thought there was in Andrew Geczy's Article and then my view on the subject. First of all congrats to Andrew for a awesome introduction in his article, it caught my interest right away. As I read on though I found it narrow minded and obviously from a computer players view. He talks about people being stuck on consoles and yet he sees the console as home to turn based rpgs only. Truth is though is that it is house to many games whether they are shooter rpgs, action rpgs, strategy rpgs, turn based rpg, or not an rpg at all. While on this topic I am inclined to defend Final Fantasy as it is challenging and shows ATB (active time battle) as a way around those that show no reflexes, and when the battles are hard you cant rely on luck at all or else u would just keep retrying over till a person got through. Skill is needed so that barrier and wall come into effect, a great example would be Final Fantasy Tactics, a great game within itself. Next would be Andrew's comment on Action RPGs, they are not simply hacking games with a few complications. Reflex, evasion and thought is a necessity in order to solve puzzles, defeat enemies and stay alive. The Zelda series was in fact a good game to show innovation to the action genre as it mixed many attributes together and became even better with Ocarina of Time. There was a few more things but basically what it boils down to is he brought in two genre for examples when they're are many more, then he a hack slash game to round up to the point to emphasize the game he enjoys most. It may be good but it is far from perfection. Lastly, my thoughts on all of this. My point is there is no better system, its personal preference im not asking you to make a choice or try to understand another's opinion. Im saying play the games you love to play, whether it console or computer its is always best to expand your mind and concentrate on what you enjoy not what you dislike. As I once heard said "One persons trash is another's treasure box found in a dungeon." |
