I would take the time to tell you why I disagree with Nintendo
refusing Square as a Game Boy Advace developer, but I believe that my
letter I sent to Nintendo explains it best:
Dear Nintendo
I recognize that the reason Squaresoft was restricted from making
Game Boy Advance games was because they backed out on a promise to
make games for the Nintendo 64 and only the Nintendo 64 by later
decided to make games for the Playstation and only the Playstation.
But it's not like Nintendo didn't exactly break any promises. Not
once did I ever see the 64DD that was promised, and the decision to
just forget it rather than finish and release it probably hurt the
N64 more than Square leaving for the PSX ever could have, since the
biggest complaint most developers had about the Nintendo 64 was it's
smaller amount of data storage compared to the Playstation, a problem
that I believe the 64DD would've fixed.
I have always loved and supported Nintendo's consoles and games, and
I probably always will. But I don't believe it's right for Nintendeo
to hold Square to a promise they made and broke as long as Nintendo
isn't holding itself to a promise it made and broke.
