by _Mog_r Does anybody even know what they want in a role-playing game these days? All I ever hear anymore is people complaining about a new type of game or moaning about the success of a game they didn't like. Everyone agrees that games where better when they were younger. How much better were games back then, really? Even though Final Fantasy VII was released more than three years ago, there's still people talking about how horrible they that it was. I personally didn't like the game play the best, but the storyline is still one of the best. It did do what no RPG has ever done before, it brought the Role-Playing Game into the mainstream. I don't see why anyone would complain about that. Since it's release we have been getting more decent RPGs in a year than we used to get in a 2-3 year period. People are still talking about how much they don't like many of the games these days. Why? Because they're different? Because companies are finally not afraid to try something new? The older games all had the same basic storyline: you are a knight with sword, must kill evil villian and save princess. Now that we finally get varying storylines, everyone complains that it's not fun. Not fun? Because it's not so predictable? Many of the plot lines these days are the most engrossing I've seen since FFIV. (Although if Final Fantasy IV were released today everyone would probably complain about the shortness of the game.) The gameplay is ever-changing as well. But there's no need to cry about something you don't like. Some people might like it, and if the game doesn't do well I doubt anybody will put anything out like it again. I understand if you want to state you're opinion, then state it, argue your point, and leave it alone. Why drive it into the ground how much you hate something? And if you do like something, respect somebody else's opinion about, don't scream at them for not thinking the same way you do. Does anyone really think that if games where the same as the used to be we'd all be happy? If games where the same as the Dragon Warrior and early Final Fantasy games, we would all complain about the same retired storyline, no-inovation, and even more the shortness of games. Let's all just sit back, watch the games, buy the ones we want, and don't worry about the rest. If you don't think it'll be fun, don't worry about it. Us role-players as a whole will never be happy, so just enjoy what you like, and bitch about what you want, just bitch somewhere where I can hear about it. |
