by WMAdoy This is not a rebuttal to Chief Ug's editorial, as it is more a general observation. Mr. Ug argued that the Final Fantasy series has declined in worth because it keeps telling the exact same story over and over. What Mr. Ug fails to state is that really most works of literature and films do the exact same thing and tell the same story over again. Trends in films and literature are the cause of this. Take the academy award-winning movie American Beauty as an example. Condensed into one line, it is a movie about despite outward appearances, people are trapped in suburbia. However, what is new about this? Not only have several authors have already written about this topic but also the existential movement had this as a common theme. It was the same basic story told a different way. The only new occurrence is that the telling of the same basic story now carries over to the RPG world. Although Chief Ug detracts the Final Fantasy series for telling the same story over and over, he does not point out that other forms of media do the exact same thing. Therefore, do not just criticize Final Fantasy series because of the story mold it follows because everything else does the exact same thing. Feedback, flames, jokes?
