by Collin Otto Mr. Brad Lohr, I’m writing this in response to your rebuttal to the letter on the evils of homosexuality. Many of the things you say do have some truth to them. But I’m here to tell you that on many points you are sadly mistaken. Don’t get all mad right away by me saying this, because if you truly are the good little agnostic you say you are, then you’d look at this letter with a great deal of objectivity. First off I’d like to address the matter of tolerant Christianity. While I believe that tolerance is necessary, you can’t be so tolerant that you are afraid to tell others what you think. A Christian can’t just sit there and let a friend, or anyone for that matter go on believing what is sin. To understand this statement, you have to understand a basic underlying principle of Christianity. Christians have been given a "great commission" (Matthew 28:18-20, if you care to look for yourself) and that commission is to tell everyone we know about Jesus and what he did for our world. Say for instance Brad, that you were a Christian, and your friend was standing by you trying to justify what you think is sin as being right. You know as a Christian that the final resting place of your friends soul on his current path would be hell. The "tolerant" thing to do would be to just let him believe what he wants, it’s his life, right? Wrong, while it is his life, if you were any sort of a friend to him you wouldn’t just stand their on his way to hell. It’s like the statement "friends don’t let friends drive drunk." likewise, "friend don’t let friends burn in hell." You can’t just stand there while people you care about around you are dying and going to hell, your good Christian friend, believe it or not, is probably sad to no end that you won’t accept Christ because he knows where you’re going to if you don’t. Do you understand what I'm saying? That’s why Christians can’t be tolerant, in some ways, of others beliefs. Second I’d like to make known, that to my knowledge the segregation in the United States had nothing to do with biblical standards, if the people who made segregation legal really understood love, compassion, and equality they’d have known that what they were doing was wrong. In God’s eyes all men are equal. Racism is a horrible evil, and in no way do I think segregation was made stronger by actual biblical text. Because segregation was made strongest by hypocritical southern pastors, the KKK, and by racist government leaders who wouldn’t allow for change, not the actual bible. The truth of the bible has no quarter for racism. Lastly, you stated that "the real sad part of this story is that you're just repeating things that have been told to you, not thinking on your own." Who is to say that he isn’t speaking something that he has studied. Christians study their beliefs more than anyone else, because we are required to study our bibles and our beliefs to stay strong. Now if you said that statement about an eighteen year old evolutionist, it would probably be closer to the truth. Probably over half this country believes evolution if not more. But how many actually study it in depth, outside of the slicing of the surface done in schools. You could actually say of me what you said of this man, but would it be right to say that I’m taking all of this from what others tell me? No, it wouldn’t, because I study this stuff, and I know what the bible says, not what some pastor on stage says. You should be more careful perhaps about who you says knows their stuff and who doesn’t. Now, as a closing remark I’d like to ask you to take this in all objectivity rather than trying your best to smash everything I’ve said here. And maybe you should have a talk with your Christian friend, maybe he’d be interested in trying to explain what being a Christian is to you, and maybe you’d give up your "agnostic" status and take up the faith. I think, and your friend would too, that that would be an awesome thing. So with this, "Long live RPGamer and their staff!" Yours truly - Collin "The die hard Christian" Otto Original Editorial: My God can Beat Up Your God |
