BRAVEHEART was a unique movie. So was FORREST GUMP. Both grossing over one hundred million dollars at the Box Office, they also found fame as cinematic works of art. Both winning Oscars for Best Picture, the lines "life is like a box of chocolates" and "but they can't take our freedom" broke into every home across North America. Art, while appreciated to its fullest extent by other artists, hobbyists, and critics alike, can also appeal to the mass market. That is what is so fascinating about allegories, and why their creators are so exalted. THE SCARLET LETTER's tale of love and adultery could easily appeal to the mass market, while still amazing the most studied literary scholars in the political boldness Nathaniel Hawthorne had displayed in creating the satirical work. But there is one group who will dislike it, and that is those who are educated in literature but miss the underlying messages. The average person is looking for a story and finds one, the scholars are looking for a deeper meaning and find it, but the last group never finds what they are looking for, and are then found alone in their discontent. Citizen Andrill, the analogy is simple: FINAL FANTASY VIII is a BRAVEHEART of the video gaming world. Offering a game that will sell is by no means a sin, and I am absolutely certain that Working Designs is not allergic to profit. The game, while striking rich with sales, also has depth for those willing to look. Unfortunately, with respect to FINAL FANTASY VIII, you have fallen into the last category. Not to say you are unintelligent, because your statement does make sense: SQUARE is not coming back. Oh yeah, its because they never left. Original Editorial: Forget it – Square is not coming back |
