Console Wars

by Crimson Rogue

When I first started playing video games it was at a friends house. He had a nintendo and a sega master system. The nintendo appealed to me more because the games seemed more fun. Later on there was the Super Nintendo and the Sega Genesis. I explored the option to buy both systems, but to me Sega still had a system that wasn't at all exciting.

Now we come to the near present. I heard from EVERYONE about the playstation so I got one not even realizing that FF7 would be out soon. The graphics were great and it was easy to get into the games. (still is actually) Sony has by far proved to me that they have a quality machine and I will definately keep buying titles for it.

Shortly thereafter, Nintendo introduced the N64 that was supposed to be the playstation killer. First off. I liked mario on nes and the snes. Now, once I saw title after title based on mario come out on N64, I rolled my eyes at the whole system franchise. Mario and pokemon do not represent the basis for having a system. The controls for this system are horrible. there are about 20 buttons and I don't think I ever saw a game that used the directional keys. The analog controls involve too much correction.

Now Sega has introduced the Dreamcast, Sony has announced the coming of the PS2 and Nintendo has the dolphin. Well, it's not too hard to find out where my moneys going to go.

The only thing that sega has going for them is that the same game makers that produce titles for sony are introducing similar titles on the dreamcast. The dreamcast, in my mind, will not have been out long enough to have a strong fanbase when the PS2 debutes.

Sony has proven itself worthy of my money with game franchises such as Final fantasy and tekken to name VERY few. I know that with the combination of awesome graphics and the ability to play DVD movies gives Sony an advantage over the competition.

Nintendo may have mind breaking graphics with FMV's better than the PSX or the PS2, but who really cares? I really don't care to see yet another mario, pokemon or zelda incarnation on another of nintendo's systems.
