by Fred O'Grady Remember the good old days of editorial writing? Points, counter-points, all of the debating brewery to really whisk you into an argument. It was incredible how they seemed to make you feel like doing a rebuttal. Alas, to some, though, for as time and technology changed, so did the fads in editorial writing. The points were replaced by babbling, supporting arguments with inane drivel, and closing arguments with indecisiveness. Was this a bad fad? No, just because something changes does not make it worse. Sure, it doesn't do as good a job of convincing you of something (even though drawn out arguments should...), but it is easier to spoof, making you feel like doing a parody. And isn't that what editorials are all about? Not the arguments, not the logic, not the reasoning, but the ability to make someone look stupid for holding an opinion counter to your own. We write editorials to make a point and to make people think like us. That's what editorial writing is all about, folks. After this editorial was released, people thought it was over after the 12th sentence, simply because I had finished making my point. But people, the deepness of my arguments and points remained the same. Through all of the nitty-gritty dumb sentences and high-tech useless arguments, didn't you feel as attached to my editorial as to my editorial in the first few sentences? Basically, what I'm trying to say is, I don't care if they start making editorials with a clear point, as long as logic and arguments that I can make fun of are still there, I will read, and I will enjoy. Don't judge a book, or an editorial, by it's cover, people! Thank you for wasting your time reading this, and feel free to e-mail me with your opinions, positive or otherwise..... |
