by Zero Mag First I want to welcome you back JD and glad that you're now in the editorials. Also all this is in IMHO, so don't get mad. I believe that it's probably going to be N64 versus PSX over again. The reason I think this is going to happen for the following reasons. The Dreamcast is an outstanding system, and I have absolutely nothing against (except it doesn't have Square :])but I betting that when PSX 2 comes out the DC will not have gathered enough support to beat a system with that much power and support behind it. The Playstation 2 looks more than promising but its price is a bit alarming. One of hte main reasons videogame systems are so popular is that they are more inexpensive alternative to computers and also the market is huge too. The 370 price tag will probably go down significantly, but if nintendo can truly pull off even a 150 price tag, Playstation 2 will have to try to match somewhat. There is not a very good chance that someone w/o much knowledge of systems will choose a 300 system over a slightly more powerful 150 system. Unfortunately, if Nintendo can't pull it together in time to get enough 3rd party support, and buyers it will be psx & N64 all over. If nintendo can pull off the right marketing and start with an agressive price, they just might have the resources to pull over 3rd party support and gain a very stable foothold in the industry. All this of course depends mostly on 3rd party support, since nintendo kind-of goofed up with N64 imho, I'm hoping they can pull this off right. Well those are my two cents. |
