Daily Adversities for the RPGamer

by BenJer

Before I start this rebuttle, I'd like to state that I'm not an outcast, and I'm kinda popular, so people reading this and the original now get a better understanding of my statement.

At my school, yes, when I ask them if they've played Final Fantasy 7, or Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete, I sometimes get statements such as "What a waste of time" However, the most common responce I generally get from said persons is that "Wow, you must be a brain to figure those games out! I've tried (insert RPG here) and I didn't understand a thing!" I compare my results by asking one of the less smarter kids, and they say things such as "RPG games suck, go play WWF Warzone"

But yes still I do get replies that say I'm a nerd to stare at a TV mindlessly, thumbing through great plots and horrific storyline twists. At my high school, I'd say that one out of every eighty five people play RPGS. There is, however, one RPG that everyone that owns a Playstation has seemed to play. I no longer consider it an RPG.

Parasite Eve.

They play it for the gore, and it's Resident Evil style of gameplay. Mind you, PE is one of my favorite RPGS, but I like it for the storyline (Spoiler coming up) such as the mitochondrea evolving, which I think is pretty cool. However, I prefer the plots of games such as Xenogears, where religion provides that extra curve in the story.

When people say that I must be smart to play RPGS, it flatters me. I consider myself a smart person, and usually when some of my friends have questions about Xenogears, FF7, or BFM, they come to me. I'd like to close by saying that the RPGamer is not outcasted, but more intelligent. I like to believe that we look for more depth and plot in a game, rather that picking up a nonsense title like WWF Warzone. There's my two cents.
