Fun Fact
My last name is much easier to pronounce using katakana characters than it is in English!

Amish In front of Matsumoto Castle

Near the beginning of this decade, I was talking with some friends about various console RPGs when one recommended a particular site to me: this one. I started submitting reviews for console and PC games when I was a university student, and before you know it I was asked to join the staff as a reviewer. So began my journey with RPGamer.

My name is Paul Koehler, and I'm on staff as a Foreign Correspondent, especially for the purpose of covering the Tokyo Game Show. Aside from my previous RPGamer experience as reviewer, public relations manager, and event correspondent (at E3 2002, 2003, and TGS 2005) I'm covering TGS because I live here! Shortly after graduating in 2004, I came over as an English teacher with one of the major conversation schools in the country. I also went on hiatus with my regular work on the site, though I come back every now and then to help with special coverage of events like these. As of now teaching English is still my day job, and it certainly pays the bills. But this line of work is where my passions lie, so to speak.

Aside from the gaming background my life has changed quite a bit since coming to Japan, mostly for the good. The Land of the Rising Sun is no longer an exotic haven, but just home like any other. Travelling to various areas of the country and learning the language keep me occupied, and spending time with my girlfriend and other friends is enjoyable as well. I'd never thought it was possible to have more free time, but after university I have managed to do just that. At least a little bit.

If you have any questions regarding gaming or life on this side of the planet, feel free to send me a message! While I am hardly the first (or the last) to make this journey, my work on this site is in no small part responsible for my decision to make the jump to the other side of the Pacific, so I'm more than willing to provide the RPGamer's perspective.

That's that. For the rest, you'll have to look at my TGS coverage.
