Look! It's me!

Hello there! Since your visiting my bio page I’m fairly sure that you know my name is Jonathon Self, but I thought, since you’re here, I might as well share a bit more about myself.
Besides for my name, I do have an interest in video games (surprised, eh?). This interest has been with me a long time and it is probably impossible to date when it first started. For some odd reason I had the strange advantage to have grown up with video games from a very young age. Around 4 years old I received my first video game console which was an Intellivision made by Mattel. Since then, I have owned (almost) every video game console to grace the shores of North America.
Even though I’ve owned a great many gaming systems and played a great amount of games, I’ve always seemed to have been drawn to the story-telling elements of role-playing games. Without a solid story, video games just seem to lack a sense a depth and immersion that I really have come to love. However, with today’s video games ever blurring the boundaries between genres, I have really grown to love many titles which fully embrace good story telling elements.
I have not always been an overly passionate gamer, however. It was only out of chance that I have played many of the gem titles of the past such as Mystic Quest, Final Fantasy VI and IV, Dragon Warrior, Earthbound, and the Final Fantasy Legend series. The period of time that I grew up was truly a renaissance of video gaming, and I simply had open access to the titles available at the time. Looking back on it, I have had the luck to play most of the great titles of the decade (and not only role playing games) in their original format. In a way, my interest in video games have birthed into a solid base of knowledge and history that has served me well now that that interest has evolved into an enthusiastic joy.
I do of course have interests outside of gaming, I’m also happily married and live in Norman, Oklahoma. When I’m not playing some sort of game, I’m most likely spending quality time with my wife or playing with my dog (who happens to be a adorable fluffy little corgi).
As for why I’m writing for RPGamer, I have no specific reason. I really have no interest in becoming professionally involved with the journalistic gaming world. I’m simply a normal, enthusiastic gamer who wants to share information about world of gaming to those who may not have the time to research as much as I.
If anyone ever has any questions or just wants to say, “Hi,” give me a buzz on IRC chat.
