Just One Good Tale

The name's Dallas. I enjoy a good story. I love being pulled into a new world, meeting new characters, and watching important events unfold in their lives. That's why I enjoy watching films and reading books. So, naturally, I like RPG's as well. All it takes it a good story and I'm hooked. I can forgive a weak battle system and all that as long as the plot is involving. But I wasn't always into RPG's.

A Not-Quite-So-Random Encounter with Final Fantasy VII

When I was young(er) I would play platforming games, like Mario and Sonic. In 1999, I spent the summer with my father and he bought me a PSOne for my 14th birthday. My first game was Crash Bandicoot. Of course, I liked it, because I was into that kind of game. Well, my dad, my step mom, and I went to bet on horse races a lot that summer. One time I won over $100, which was a lot for me at the time (and still is.) I wasn't quite sure what to spend my money on. Around that time a friend told me about a game called Final Fantasy VII.

I didn't know much about RPG's or even what the letters stood for. All I knew was that this Final Fantasy VII sounded interesting. The way my friend explained it made the game seem like an epic novel. I never thought a game could have such an enchanting tale. I had to check it out. I was immediately pulled in by the interesting characters and modern fantasy theme. It was also my first encounter with random, turn-based battles, which I ended up liking. The fact that the game was long also made it that more exciting, like a huge book filled with twists and turns.

I finished FFVII and wanted more. Lucky for me, Final Fantasy VIII came out that same year. It quickly became my favorite RPG and remains so. In my opinion, the story is quite realistic and modern. It was the story about some college kids with real issues, something I could relate to, but with a fantasy twist to it. I liked that. It was different. And that's how I got into RPG's. Since then I've been constantly searching for games with great plots. I found RPGamer.com while looking for FFVIII and it has helped me with my search. There was a time when I usually had to wait until the next installment of Final Fantasy was released, but sadly, that changed with FFXII, which found disappointing. Here's hoping FFXIII will be awesome.

My Story

My love for great stories ties into what I want to do with my life. My main focus is acting, but I want to establish myself in the film, video game, and book industries. I would like to create amazing stories that entertain audiences and make them reflect on life and human nature. I am a student at the University of Texas and I am majoring in Film and English, though presently studying abroad in Mexico. I act in, write for, and direct student films and plays. After I graduate I plan to teach English in Japan for at least a year, whilst learning Japanese, and then become an officer in the Marines for at least four years. I believe that as long as work towards my goals then the pieces will all fall into place. You'll see me on the big screen soon.
