   My brain hurts!

Googleshng - February 3 '03- 2:00 Eastern Standard Time

It's strange how we gauge intelligence. Take my cousin for instance. He's a certified genius who earned a degree in quantum physics by the time he was 18. He also has a chipped tooth from when he once threw a rock straight up in the air and watched it fall back down, frequently spends 8 hours at a time wandering the streets because he forgot how to get from his house to a place he's been several times before, and has nearly killed himself no fewer than five times that I can recall doing such mundane things as, most recently, getting a glass of water.

I'm currently trying to arrange international flight plans with him.

You know, when you write in to a Q&A column enough to have this concern...

Greetings (moogles sing) GOOGLESHNG
I just have to let everyone know I'm still around. I've been busy with school starting and I wish one of you people are at the same place as I am. *especially females* That and I am really hooked on playing Sim City 4 and such. Google, I'm surprised that nobody mentioned how you could be female on the basis of someone wanting you to dress as Naga? Since if you are a male that would just be horribly disturbing, about as bad as if Bubba tried that. Also are you going to Anime Central or not since I might be present there.
Imperial Mog

Googleshng:
Well, the wacky scheme to get me there has officially fallen through, so if I'm going to Anime Central, I will now have to scrounge up some money. I have a few months though, so hey, that might actually happen!

Myth dispellery.

To the RPGamer public:

This stupid nonsense about FF8 is getting out of hand. It's time to put the game behing us, ok? I mean, everybody thinks they're delivering an original point of view on the game every time they write but, trust me, it has been done WAY TOO MANY TIMES BEFORE. Pardon the shouting. If you liked the game, fine. If you hated it, fine. I mean, who really cares. Isn't there a more interesting topic out there?

To our eminent Q&A Guy GOOGLE:

Did I read somewhere that there was another Chrono game in the making or was it a dream? How do you thinks SoM : New Testament will turn out? Haven't played that brownie brown game, what was it called... "Magical Vacation"(?). Hope they take New Testament closer to the early Seiken Densetsu seires.

One more thing : Valkyrie Profile is a game that must be tried out. It's really cool.

Toejam without Earl

Googleshng:
You did not dream that they were making a new Chrono game most likely, nor did you really hear it. That's just a rumor being tossed around like crazy. Incidentally, if I had a dollar for every time someone asked me for information on a game that didn't exist, I'd have given Mog there an emphatic yes.

With regards to the SD series, there is a very common myth that I am going to dispell right now (which is strange, since I thought I just did this on Friday). The series as a whole does not, I repeat, does not, have the whole weapon and spell level system Secret of Mana does. Legend of Mana there didn't "abandon the traditional gameplay", SoM did. Hopefully though they'll realize how much that improved it though and bring it back in the future.

As for Valkyrie Profile, I agree that it's a great game, but it really isn't for everyone. The whole bit with monsters staying dead when you kill them, and only having X chances to enter a dungeon and go character build isn't for everyone you know.

Swissness

Hello Goog,

I have question concerning the release of Xenosaga.
Man, I'm really looking forward to get this game. I've been a big fan of Xenogears ever since I played it for the first time, and although 'Saga won't have that many similarities with it, I'm longing for a really good story.
The release date in the states is crawling nearer but since I live in Sweden I've been cursing the gaming industry for making me wait even longer, and even worse, wish for the game to make it here at all'okay enough whining, I guess you're fed up with us europeans complaining all the time.

But now I've seen that on your release list, you state that Xenosaga will come to Europe in March. In MARCH!!! That's soon, so soon! Now, before I start jumping around, making weird little sounds of joy, can you tell me if there's even the slightest chance that this is true?
I've read this on Swedish game sites too but usually you can't trust them with this stuff.

Please answer this, and have a good day!

Rincewind

Googleshng:
My source for European dates isn't available at the moment, but one would assume the official ship date is indeed in March at the moment. One can also assume that it will be pushed back any second now, because that IS a disturbingly short gap between the North American and European dates.

You never know though, they COULD have found some people to translate the game into a dozen languages and change the video encoding in record time.

Hey Google,
Why are there only three questions and answers in the FAQ, there has to be mroe than those three questions that are frequently asked right?

Well yeah, I mean just "What game should I buy?" I get a good 20 or 30 times a week, but that one doesn't make me start foaming at the mouth. I think I need to update that list though.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH! That game's been giving me fits for years! Feels like just shy of a decade now....
I don't suppose you have any hints about beating The System Core? (Second to last node in the game.)
*sigh*
I so want to know how the kid ends up.

Sadly I've only ever actually SEEN System's Twilight once, and it was an unregistered version. There really is quite a bit of appeal to an adventure game where your inventory ends up containing stuff like "128k of random data" and something to reverse words.

The Last Laugh:

You may be wondering what the story is with the title of today's column. The answer can be found by following the following link, but be forewarned. This will give you a headache. Well I suppose it won't if you don't have flash enabled.

For extra fun, try to figure out what the original version of that picture looked like.
