Had you all ready to flame me, didn't I? :) I'm sure I'll get some flames anyway, but for the record, it doesn't suck (just so you don't try to call me on it. Ha.)

Hey....I'm a long time RPG fan, and I'm just wondering if perhaps you
could tell me this:
Why do guys assume that just because I'm a girl I know /nothing/ about
RPG's?
I know /lots/ about RPG's! Most of the ones that tell me I don't think
that 'FF3' (US) was FF3 in Japan (duh). I beat Xenogears before these
guys....and they keep telling me that I /thought/ I did. Uh-huh....so
seeing Krelian's Bum was a manifistation of my imagination, uh-huh.
Sure.
I thought that because you're a guy....you could tell me why these
idiots can't accept that I know alot about RPG's....and perhaps *gasp*
Maybe MORE THAN THEM! Oh my! Oh dear! The Apocalypse is near!

What do you know? You're only a girl. Why should I listen to YOU? Get back in the kitchen. (I'm being highly sarcastic, for those of you who don't catch on well. ;) Really, the most hardcore RPG fans I know are girls. (not THAT kind of hardcore, you sickos.) And remember, when you get in an argument with a girl, the best answer is usually "Yes dear." |

Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it."

| | | What is this "Y"? |
|
What the hell is this "Y's" thing everybody is talking about?
Over the past few weeks, I have seen "Y's" in RPGamer's letter column a
thousand times, and I have NO CLUE as to what it is!!! So...what is it?

| Ryan:
Ys is a series of games created by Falcom Co. Ltd. Only 1, 2 and 3 were released in America, where both 4s (there were two, Mask of the Sun for SNES and Dawn of Ys for Turbo Duo) and 5 (for SNES) were only released in Japan. They probably gave up in the US after Ys 3 bombed, even though it is regarded as far and away the worst game in the series. |

Hey Ryan,
I have a serious question to ask you and I would like your opinion...With
all of the great first-rate RPG's that are coming out this year, which one
do you think will win RPG of the Year in magazines and such?? How about
Lunar, with it's engrossing story, old school graphics and gameplay and
awesome animation scenes, this one will win the hearts of many "older"
RPGamers. Or how's about Star Ocean 2, with it's innovative gameplay,
multiple quests and endings and a great soundtrack, this one looks like the
dark horse of the year...Then we come to Grandia..the epic game that was the
Saturn's answer to Sony's FF7...and last but not least..FF8, which will
probably win becuase of it's popularity and sweet eye/ear-candy. What do you
think??
|
| Ryan:
Duh, FF8 will win merely because it's FF. Star Ocean and Lunar should make strong showings though, and possibly Suikoden 2 (I've heard it's really good.) I guess we'll have to wait till the end of the year, huh? ;) |
| | Ys found
|
|
Yo Big Pimpster Ryan!
I saw that Ys letter on Monday, and I decided to go get it. I searched
abandoneware sites, and I eventually found Ys 1. I think you could
post it, since it's fully available in abandoneware. The game is kinda
stupid, though, and you just run into people to attack, but hey, it's
like Ys 4 for Super Nintendo! It's 16 color, and the music is complete
trash, but it's definetly a classic. Oh well, a little Ys history!
-Dan "Nicknames bite me" Bisciglia
PS - SO2 is awesome! The battle system rules!
|
| Ryan:
Ok, now you know how to find it. I would post it here; I doubt anyone would care, but I really can't afford a lawsuit, no matter how small the chance, so you can probably find the Ys games if you look hard enough on search engines. |

Hey Ryan,
I just got the Star Ocean: 2nd Story strategy guide, and I want to say
that this game is overwhelming for me. So...many...skills...ug.
But thats not the point of this letter. Did you know that Ronixis Kenni
was one of the main characters of Star Ocean 1? I found this was very
surprising when I read it, but you probably already know that. So THATS why
this game is called "Star Ocean: The 2nd Story" and not "Star Ocean 2".
-Zack S.
|
| Ryan:
I did not know that. In Claude's intro, he talks about all his father's quests and accomplishments, but I didn't know the story carried over from the first. That's pretty cool, they're connected, but they're not really.. Neat, thanks.

Ryan sez:
Whee, my second day. I already have root passwords to all the machines and routers, fear me. I spent the day writing perl for a machine running Windows NT 3.1, MSSQL 6.0 and IIS 3.0. If you have no idea what I just said, let it suffice I was writing code for things it was not meant to be written for. An exercise in patience, let me assure you. Not that you all care, I just decided to tell you for fun. Till tomorrow.
